Secure Shell, better known as SSH, is a cryptographic network protocol employed to execute commands on a remote machine or to exchange information between a server and a client. Given that the data exchanged by the two sides is protected, a third party won't be able to intercept it, which makes SSH a favorite means of controlling an Internet hosting account. The commands which may be executed depend on the type of hosting service. On a shared hosting server, in particular, the choices are limited because you won't have root access to the server, so you can just create/move/delete files, set up and unpack archives, import and export databases, etc. These are all actions which are performed inside the shared hosting account and do not need a higher level of access. With a virtual or a dedicated server, you'll have the ability to set up server-side software or to restart the hosting server or only a specific service (web server, database server, etc.). SSH commands are submitted through a command line, but if you don't use a UNIX-like Operating System, there are a number of applications for other OSs, which you can use to connect to the remote server as well.

SSH Telnet in Cloud Hosting

If the cloud hosting plan that you’ve picked through the signup process comes with SSH access as standard, you shall be able to activate this function with a click inside your Hepsia CP. In case you have selected a different plan, the SSH access function can be added via the Upgrades menu and it will become available immediately. The information you need to connect will be conveniently listed in the SSH section of the CP - the hostname, the username and the port number. You can even set what password to use from the same place and you shall be able to change it anytime. All the commands which are allowed are listed in the Help articles which we've prepared for you, together with examples of the syntax that you should use. An additional advantage of allowing SSH access to your account is that you will be able to upload files through an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

All our semi-dedicated server accounts offer the possibility to access and manage them using SSH. If the package deal that you have chosen incorporates this function by default, you simply need to enable the SSH access feature through the corresponding section of the Hepsia Control Panel. If the function is listed as an optional upgrade, you may quickly add it via the Add Services/Upgrades link within the Hepsia Control Panel and it will be available within a minute. We have various help articles and instructional videos concerning the use of SSH commands to manage your account and an entire list of the commands that you can perform along with a number of examples to give you a better understanding of what you could do. If SSH is enabled, you'll also be able to establish an SFTP connection to the account and to upload files safely using any FTP app that supports the function.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

You'll be able to use SSH to manage your content regardless of which VPS plans you choose when you sign up, because all our packages provide this function as standard. You'll not need to add or allow anything by hand - the moment your website hosting server is ready and you receive the Welcome e mail with the login info, you could connect and start working on your sites or any software that you want to set up and run on the web server. You'll have root-level access to the VPS and since the account shall be isolated from all the other accounts within the physical web server, you will be able to do anything you'd like with no restrictions. You'll be able to set up any application you need and that shall work on a Linux-based server, restart any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and work with your files and databases easily and quickly.
