Every single registered domain name has at least 2 Name Server records that show where it's hosted i.e. by using these records you direct your domain name to the servers of a certain hosting company. That way, you have both your website and your emails managed by the same company. On the lower level of the Domain Name System (DNS), however, there are lots of other records, for instance A and MX. The former reveals which server handles the site for a given domain address and is always an IP address (123.123.123.123), while the second one shows which server manages the e-mails and is always an alphanumeric string (mx1.domain.com). For example, whenever you enter a domain address in your web browser, your request is forwarded through the global DNS system to the company whose NS records the domain uses and from there you may be forwarded to the servers of a different company in case you have set an IP address of the latter as an A record for your Internet domain. Having independent records for the site and the emails means you can have your website and your emails with 2 different companies if you would like.

Custom MX and A Records in Cloud Hosting

If you have a cloud hosting account from our company and you would like to switch either your website or your e-mails to another company, it is going to take you literally simply two mouse clicks to do it. Our Hepsia CP provides an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains will be listed alphabetically and you'll be able to see and edit the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to set up more MX records than the standard two, it will not take more than a few mouse clicks either to add them. You can also set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the higher the priority a particular MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you change or create is not going to take more than several hours and if necessary, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, that indicates how long a record will stay active after it's changed or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Servers

The Hepsia hosting CP, included with our Linux semi-dedicated hosting plans, will enable you to view the A and MX records for each of the domain addresses or subdomains in your account and if needed, to update any of them or set up new ones. Controlling these records is very easy as all domains/subdomains will be listed alphabetically, so modifying a record is as easy as entering it in a box and saving the change. Setting up a new one takes just a couple of more clicks and if you experience any difficulties, you can check out our instructional videos on how to set up A and MX records. Our system is intuitive enough to be used by people with no previous experience, yet sophisticated enough to provide you with 100 % control over all records and to allow you to have different A records even for domain.com and www.domain.com. If you're pointing your e-mails to a different provider and they ask you to set up more than two different MX records, you can select the priority of each one.
